Love and Logic Basics - Rule #1

It's hard for most parents to believe but Love and Logic has only 2 rules. Jim and Charles Fay say "There are no guarantees in life - no absolutely certain approaches to ensure that our children grow up to be lovable, kind, intelligent, and reliable people. The odds are raised, however, when we start young and follow the two rules of Love and Logic."

Love and Logic Rule #1 For Parents: Take care of yourself by setting limits in a loving way.

In class (and in the Love and Logic books and CDs) the skills are taught to help you with this rule.
  • Act without frustration or anger
  • Stop using threats and repeated warnings
  • Set a Limit once
  • Make statements you can enforce
  • Give kids a healthy sense of control
I've included a link to one of the books these rules are covered in. Love and Logic Magic for Early Childhood by Jim & Charles Fay. If you click on the title of this post it will take you right to this book on the L&L website.
